Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy 2025-2030 – Consultation
When released in 2025, the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy 2025-2030 (MHAOD Strategy) will be the new guiding document for Western Australia, across community, government, non-government and the private sector, that sets the vision for the mental health and alcohol and other drugs systems, services and supports for the next five years.
The new MHAOD Strategy will set the whole-of-system priorities for both mental health and alcohol and other drugs over the next five years.
A Discussion Paper has been developed to guide the consultation process. It has been informed by a range of previous national and state consultation activities; national and state strategic documents; a review of current programs and services; guidance from the Mental Health Technical Advisory Group and the Alcohol and Other Drugs Technical Advisory Group; and targeted engagement with members of the community and government, non-government and private organisations and service providers.

Have your say
Your feedback is vital to ensure the MHAOD Strategy meets the needs of individuals, families, communities and across the sector. Feedback on the Discussion Paper will inform the development of the MHAOD Strategy, seeking to build upon what has been identified through previous consultation processes, as well as uncover new insights and priorities for action.
All stakeholders are invited to contribute, we want to hear from people who have a lived or living experience with mental health and/or alcohol and/or other drugs, including families and/or significant others; health, alcohol and other drugs and mental health professionals; government, non-government and private organisations and service providers; and the wider community.
We also encourage you to promote engagement opportunities among your networks, including service providers and people with lived experience of engaging across the systems.
Feedback can be provided as an individual or on behalf of an organisation.
Consultation will be occurring from October through to December 2024, across a variety of methods that are outlined below.
Register for a workshop
A series of community workshops are being held which aim to capture a wide range of voices.
Please note there are limited places available, and an expression of interest process will be undertaken to determine attendance and maximise diversity at each workshop.
Workshops will run for approximately 3 hours.
Following each workshop, a short session specifically for consumer mental health lived experience attendees will be facilitated by Consumers of Mental Health WA. This session is to provide a place for consumers to reflect on the workshop and have their voices heard in further detail by the consumer peak body.
See below for information on other opportunities to be involved in targeted engagement.
