A step forward for mental health services in Karratha
The State Government has released the construction tender for the Karratha Step Up/Step Down service.
The service will be located close to the town centre and, once operational, will provide psychosocial and clinical support services to help people manage their mental health and wellbeing.
Designed as a homely setting, it will feature six residential units, communal spaces, areas for group activities and facilities for staff.
Richmond Wellbeing will lead the support service, in partnership with Hope Community Services, and WA Country Health Service will provide clinical support such as counselling and therapy.
Step Up/Step Down services provide short-term residential support and individualised care for people following discharge from hospital, or those who are experiencing a change in their mental health to avoid a hospital stay.
There are Step Up/Step Down services in Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton, Joondalup, Kalgoorlie and Rockingham.
