More mental health support for children and adolescents

Published on 20 Mar 2024

Acute Care Response Teams (ACRTs) will be established in the North and South metropolitan regions, and in the Great Southern to support children and adolescents .

Families across Western Australia were consulted as part of the Infant, Child and Adolescent (ICA) Taskforce. They called for more resourced, organised and connected services, and more support and care to be provided in the community, rather than in hospitals.

ACRTs will provide invaluable mobile outreach and crisis support services for children up to the age of 17 years. They will also provide rapid response to support children and adolescents who are experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as their families and carers.

They will ensure more children, adolescents and their wider support networks in the metropolitan and Great Southern areas have the support they need, closer to home.
