New alcohol and other drug support service for health care professionals
In response to COVID-19, the Minister for Mental Health Roger Cook last week announced the launch of a hotline to assist GPs and other front-line health professionals to provide treatment and support to patients experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues. The dedicated line for health professionals provides access to specialist clinicians for expert alcohol and other drug treatment advice.

Clinical Governance Review released
The State Government has released the Clinical Governance Review and is adding the new position of Chief Medical Officer, Mental Health to the Mental Health Commission. The new position will also have a key role in a newly created Mental Health Executive Committee.

The Mental Health Commission has established a new Community Advisory Group to help consider what services are necessary to help fill the gaps for individuals and families in crisis from alcohol or other drugs.
Consumer and Carer Co-Review of the Community Support Program Area - Final Report
Twenty consumers, carers and peak body representatives from the Western Australian Mental Health and AOD system undertook a co-review process of the Community Support program area from the Mental Health Commission’s Procurement Schedule throughout August and September 2019 in partnership with the MHC.
Western Australia’s first Recovery College a true collaboration
On 2 December 2019, the Minister for Mental Health announced that HelpingMinds has been appointed to provide the first state-wide Recovery College with $3.6 million invested by the State Government over three and a half years.
